WHAT HAPPENS IF A SURFEARS PLUG COMES OUT DURING A DIVE?

If a SurfEars plug comes loose at depth, water will enter the ear canal at the surrounding pressure. It will not create a damaging pressure rush against an intact eardrum. You can gently reinsert the plug. Water will escape around the gel and through the large mesh as it is inserted. Water remaining behind the plug will not expand during ascent, while any small air bubble can vent through the mesh. In very cold water, abruptly pulling out a plug may cause a sudden cold sensation. To avoid accidentally catching the leash with your arms or equipment, either dive without it or secure it with enough slack that it cannot pull on the plugs. Always equalize early, gently and frequently using your normal technique. Never force equalization or continue descending through pain.
