Mátias Manna

Surfer, fisher & waterman – Bali, Indonesia

Born in Argentina, raised in Bali. Matias is a free surfer, drawn to quiet corners and long lefts. He lives simply, travels light, and follows swells more than schedules. Always looking for new waves, always leaving places better than he found them.

What’s your favorite surf spot?

Mentawais.

What does surfing mean to you in one word?

Life.

A session you’ll never forget?

A secret spot in the Mentawais, just me, perfect 800-meter lefts, 8-foot barrels.

How do SurfEars make a difference for you in the water?

Huge difference. I can’t go in without them. I always get ear infections otherwise.

What’s your go-to meal after a surf?

Burgers, hehe.

A song that always gets you in the right mood?

Anything, really.

Who inspires you most (in or out of the water)?

Bruno Santos.

What motivates you to keep pushing yourself in surfing?

The adrenaline of big barrels.

What’s one lesson the ocean has taught you?

A lot. I’ve almost died a couple of times, it’s taught me deep respect.

What’s one small thing you do in everyday life to care for the environment?

I try to pick up any plastic I see in the ocean.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and all your food and water needs were taken care of, what three items would you bring?

A surfboard, a speargun, and a knife.
