To maintain optimal performance, rinse your plugs with fresh water after each use. If they become clogged, immerse them in warm water (around 40°C) for an hour or two to dissolve any salt crystals. After this, rinse them, and their clarity should return. For a deeper clean, after soaking in warm water, gently brush the mesh or wipe with a soft cloth to remove any lingering salt deposits.

When you blow through the plugs from the gel side, you’ll notice slight resistance, which limits circulation and helps maintain warmth inside the ear canal.

The sensation you’re experiencing may be due to the capillary effect when water enters the ear canal. This effect can produce a seal between the rubber and your skin, causing a vacuum-like feeling in the ear. Notably, this tends to occur more frequently with larger ear gels than with smaller ones.

To mitigate this:

1. Consider using a smaller ear gel size (unless you’re already on the smallest).
2. After surfacing from underwater, “click” your ears, similar to pressure equalizing.
3. Gently wiggle the plugs in your ear a few times. If the other methods don’t alleviate the sensation, this one typically does.
