A celebration of surf culture in Barcelona

If you’re anything like me, you are not only a surf addict, but also appreciate the lifestyle that surrounds it. I am referring to the surf lifestyle and culture that was born out of our beloved pastime. Every culture has art, music which people celebrate and surfing is no different, especially with the upcoming Surf City Festival!

This year’s Festival – the third consecutive year it has been held – will be on 25th March from 12pm until 2am (14 hours long) in Barcelona’s Fabra i Coats . I had the pleasure of meeting the organisers of the event, Idyl & Marc of Agua De Surf, in Portugal last year during the Surfpreneurs Camp. As well as being two lovely humans, their passion for the culture and art that represents surfing was contagious – as such, I can’t wait to see what the physical manifestation of their thoughts will be like, in the shape of the Surf City Festival!

The program brings together disciplines such as music, design, photography, shape, skate, sculpture, painting, illustration, performances, live art, cinema … all them are the backbone of the festival and are complemented by other activities with professionals, such as lectures, conferences and workshops.

Lets be clear, this is not your usual Trade show, oh no, its much more of a celebration of surf culture and quite the party. Some of this year’s highlights include:

  • Surf inspired art installations
  • Live board shaping in the shaping room
  • Skatecity installation (lots of fun)
  • Food, drink, bands and partying

The outdoor area is free to attend, and tickets for the main event start from €10. Who knows, Barcelona’s beach breaks may even light up in honour of the festival too – fingers crossed!

See you there!
